Exercises for the ear

One of  the most  important things is to train a good ear. I will give  here some exercises to develop different kinds of hearing-skills. All these exercises are designed to meet the practical needs of a rehearsal.


Ear concentration on intervals and intonation


Ear concentrated on group intonation

  • try to hear in this example the interval d - g, then the group intonation en relation to this interval ( d - e - f sharp - g) - play
  • try to hear in this example the interval g - g, then the group intonation en relation to this interval ( g - b - d - g) - play

Ear concentrated on vibrato

  • Play on your personal instrument different kinds of vibrato, from slower to faster
    too slow - nice

Ear concentrated on ranges


Ear concentrated on different balances

  • For this exercise you need at least two players , try to make them blend as much as you need, the best way is to use 4 players to put a chord together with the right balance

Ear concentrated on different tempi

  • Conduct some short pieces and your ear is concentrated if you have the right speed.

  • Your ear is concentrated on the rhythmical precision of a orchestra
